01

Engineered timber flooring

What flooring does Alpine Woods Flooring specialise in?

Our primary work includes engineered timber flooring, herringbone and chevron flooring, custom stair nosing, and detailed residential flooring installation.

What is the difference between engineered timber and solid timber flooring?

Engineered timber combines a real timber wear layer with a stable multi-layer construction, while solid timber is made from one piece of timber. Product suitability still depends on the rooms, substrate, dimensions, installation method and confirmed manufacturer requirements.

What should be checked before engineered timber flooring is installed?

The selected product, substrate condition, flatness, moisture conditions, finished floor levels, board direction and adjoining surfaces should be reviewed before the installation method and schedule are confirmed.

02

Herringbone and chevron flooring

What is the difference between herringbone and chevron flooring?

Herringbone normally uses rectangular blocks that meet at right angles. Chevron pieces have angled ends and meet to form continuous V-shaped lines. The formats create different visual rhythms and require different setout and perimeter details.

Why does herringbone or chevron installation require more planning?

A repeated pattern makes alignment, room geometry, border widths, thresholds and connections between spaces more visible. The reference lines and starting position should therefore be resolved before the main field of flooring is installed.

03

Custom stair nosing

What information is needed to plan custom timber stair nosing?

The approved flooring product, board thickness, finish, finished stair dimensions and the intended tread, riser and landing junctions need to be confirmed. Final suitability depends on the actual stair geometry and project scope.

04

Residential flooring installation

What affects the timing of residential flooring installation?

Timing depends on product availability, substrate preparation, site readiness, environmental conditions, access and coordination with other trades. The installation window should be confirmed against the wider renovation or building program.

05

Service areas

Which areas do you service?

We are based in Burwood East and focus on Melbourne's eastern, inner-eastern, and south-eastern suburbs. Project suitability depends on location, scope and scheduling.

Quotes and planning

Who do you work with?

We work with homeowners, builders, interior designers and architects planning high-quality residential flooring projects.

Can I choose my own flooring instead of the builder's flooring package?

Often, but the homeowner must first confirm what the building contract includes, whether flooring can be omitted, and when independent contractors may access the property. Alpine Woods Flooring can help assess suitable products and installation details, but does not interpret or change the builder contract.

When can independent flooring be installed in a newly built home?

Independent flooring installation is generally planned after formal handover, when the homeowner has legal control of the site and can authorise access. Product lead time, assessment, substrate preparation and installation should be allowed for before move-in or other post-handover work.

Does Alpine Woods Flooring work for or represent my home builder?

No. Alpine Woods Flooring is an independent flooring company engaged directly by the homeowner. The service does not imply an affiliation, partnership or supplier relationship with the company that built the home.

What should I prepare before requesting a flooring quote?

Share the project suburb, rooms or approximate floor area, preferred material or pattern, renovation or new-build stage, target timing, and any plans or reference images available. Site assessment may still be required before a scope is confirmed.
