The project required a warm brown engineered oak floor to connect the formal and everyday spaces of this Balwyn residence. Herringbone was selected for the principal living areas, kitchen and hallway, with coordinated straight planks used in adjoining rooms.
The installation required accurate herringbone set-out through large connected rooms and a long hallway, with balanced borders around the kitchen island, fireplace, wall openings and perimeter joinery. Transitions into straight-plank rooms also needed consistent tone and clean alignment.
Alpine Woods Flooring installed Smoked Brown engineered European oak using a direct-stick method. The 600 × 120 × 15 mm herringbone boards were set out through the main living areas, kitchen and hallway, with matching straight boards continuing into bedrooms and the walk-in wardrobe.
The finished oak floor provides a consistent warm Smoked Brown tone throughout the residence. Herringbone adds definition to the open living spaces and entrance sequence, while the straight-plank areas maintain continuity in the quieter rooms.
