The interior designer selected Natural Oak engineered herringbone flooring for the principal spaces of this contemporary Kew residence. The pattern needed to connect the kitchen, dining and living areas with the curved hallway and upper landing.
The herringbone set-out required consistent centre lines across curved walls, large open rooms and the upper-level void. The pattern also needed balanced cuts around the kitchen island, marble fireplace, staircase and full-height glazing.
Alpine Woods Flooring installed 750 × 150 × 14.5 mm Natural Oak engineered herringbone boards with a 3 mm European oak veneer. The floor was fully bonded using a full-trowel glue-down method through the living areas, kitchen, hallway and upper landing.
The completed herringbone floor gives the Kew interior a continuous natural oak foundation. Its matte wire-brushed finish and geometric pattern complement the pale marble, curved walls, black steel details and open timber staircase.
